Embarking on an ark of words - those of the Roman poet Lucretius, from whose De Rerum Natura he quotes - Hector Macdonald’s Pangea sets sail, towards the tense and sparkling ‘wave point’, where forgetting holds memory in its etiolating grasp, what remains breaking from the crest in a polychromatic shatter of verse, grasping at remembered words, remembered gestures — the light souvenir of touch become an aqueous luminescence. A shard of Lucretius’ poeticised philosophy of matter’s inconstancy, melts in Macdonald’s hands into droplets of shared time, coalescing to undo, rhyming vainly, falling through our fingertips to the floor, the contact echoing, forming bright new continents of sound.
