12 notes down the line, back in the silence - what exchanges of sound and hope? Joseph Burns’ aurific Interval, a collection of polyphonic sonnets, a shattered tenso, unveils vicissitudes of sense to mint a brief itinerancy through the chords of time past and passing, bearing up the almost-old days, shimmering as they do now, beneath the constant water. A handful of coins. What does movement take from the face, what bestow upon the half-remembered forms? With what are the strange days fungible, when you’re on your own again? The muses return no short change - there it goes now, the song of it all, soaring down into the golden valley, softly hidden by the stirring grove, still, somehow, singing… what insists and what remains?
